I will teach you how to fix the lack of memory problem in Google Chrome
The error “Google Chrome ran out of memory” usually prevents web pages from loading or causes tabs to hang. This is because Chrome runs out of available memory as it uses a thread of memory for each tab and each extension opened in the browser. The most common cause is usually due to high memory consumption by multiple open tabs or memory-hungry extensions. How to fix the lack of memory problem in Google Chrome
This can also be due to cached data, background processes, or hardware limits.
The article below describes different ways to resolve this error.
1. Switch to 64-bit
First of all, you need to check if you are using the 64-bit version of Google Chrome. This is something you should prioritize first, especially if, according to you, you have enough RAM for Google Chrome. The 64-bit version of Google Chrome is designed in such a way that it uses more memory; if Chrome throws this memory error when there is actually free memory, then that may be the problem.
- Open Google Chrome.
- Type chrome://settings/help into the address bar and press Enter.
- Check to see if “64-bit” appears after the Google Chrome version number.
- If you don’t see “64-bit” or if you see “32-bit,” you’re not running the 64-bit version of Google Chrome.
- Follow this link to download the 64-bit version, which is now the default. Download and install Google Chrome.
2. Open Task Manager
Sometimes, Chrome can start to eat up your RAM and freeze or become slow. Using Task Manager to close Chrome helps to close all of its processes and free up memory. This often fixes memory issues when you restart Chrome.
- Press the three keys together: CTRL + ALT + DEL.
- In the list presented, click the Task Manager icon.
- In Task Manager, find Google Chrome.
- Google Chrome, select.
- Click End Task. End Google Chrome tasks in the System Task Manager.
3. Clear Cache
Clearing Chrome's cache frees up memory that can be used to store cached files, images, and data from websites you visit temporarily. Over time, this can end up using up all your space and make things slower. By clearing it, you decrease memory usage and help prevent crashes or slowdowns.
- Open Google Chrome.
- Press the CTRL, SHIFT, and DEL keys simultaneously, i.e. CTRL + SHIFT + DEL.
- Check the Cached images and files option.
- Select Last hour or Last day from the drop-down menu.
- Press Clear data.
4. Disable extensions
Chrome extensions can consume a lot of memory without even being used. Disabling or removing unused extensions frees up memory, allowing Chrome's performance to run smoothly and reducing crashes. This is really helpful for computers with low RAM.
- Open Google Chrome.
- Type chrome://extensions in the address bar and press Enter.
- See a list of all installed extensions.
- Uncheck the Enable all extensions box
- If the problem stops, enable extensions one by one by checking the Enabled box. Delete the problematic extension by clicking the trash can icon.
5. Create a new user profile
Memory issues with Chrome can also be fixed by creating a new user profile, which resets Chrome's settings, extensions, and cache. It clears out old or corrupted settings, which helps Chrome run smoothly.
- Close Google Chrome completely.
- Press Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog box, type %LOCALAPPDATA%GoogleChromeUser Data and hit Enter to open Chrome's default folder location. Open Chrome's default profile location
- Find the folder named Default, right-click on it, choose Rename and rename it to Default-Bak. Rename the folder named Default to Default-Bak
- Open Google Chrome to create a new folder, named Default. If necessary, move data such as Sync Data, Accounts, or Extensions in Default-Bak to the new Default folder.
