Configuring Windows Server
Data Deduplication Storage expenses can be reduced by using data deduplication, also known as Dedup. When enabled, data deduplication optimizes the available space on a volume by inspecting data and finding duplicate parts. Such duplicate parts could simply be kept once and optionally compressed for additional savings. Not only that, but it optimizes redundancies without compromising data fidelity or integrity.
To configure data deduplication, follow the steps mentioned below.

Data deduplication should not be a high priority task, therefore we suggest you keep the Enable Background Optimization option checked.
You should also turn on Performance Optimization and set it for a time of night when you don't mind resource consumption.
A second time window can be done using the Performance Optimization schedule. When you are happy with the schedule, click Apply > OK.
Click Apply > OK.
You can also do this by using PowerShell to create a deduplication policy on a designated drive using the following commands: Enable-DedupVolume-Volume-UsageType. This will do it yourself.
