In Remnant 2's Dark Horizon DLC, there are several missable items, many of which are related to completing specific quests differently. Often, taking a path means missing out on certain rewards, and the Crop Sample is one of those complex items. This guide will fill you in on how to get the Crop Sample and explore all the ways you can use it.

How to Get the Crop Sample Quest Item in Remnant 2

To get the Crop Sample, head to the Detritus Foundry. Near the end of this dungeon, just before you face the N'Erudian Reaper boss, you'll find a section where the Crop Sample can be found, along with two of the four possible locations where it can be used.

Once inside the Detritus Foundry, continue moving forward until you reach the Worldstone. Nearby, you'll find a large circular area that's close to the dungeon entrance - this is where you'll find the Crop Sample.

How to Activate the Crop Sample in Remnant 2

Now that you have the Crop Sample, you need to head down to the lower floor, which is just below the circular section with two statues above the ground. You can get there by using the elevator from your current floor, which connects both levels.

In the room, you'll see two statues: one red and one blue. You can plant the Crop Sample in front of either statue.

In Remnant 2: The Dark Horizon DLC, there are four potential uses for the Crop Sample. Each option offers unique rewards, but after trying all four by backing up our save file, we found that we can only keep one reward at the end.

If you want to try again, you can re-cast N'Erud and get another Crop Sample to get a different reward. While it's a bit of a long process, it's still possible.

1. Plant at the Blue Statue

If you plant the Crop Sample under the blue statue at the location mentioned above, you'll receive the Gossamer Heart relic as a reward.

However, the reward will not be given out immediately. You may need to return to this location after making some progress, such as completing the dungeon, visiting Ward 13, or defeating a boss. Once you've made some progress, return to claim your reward.

Alternatively, you can reload this area by interacting with a nearby world stone and selecting the nearest spawn point.

2. Planting at the Red Statue

Planting the crop sample takes a bit longer to obtain a reward. Unlike the blue statue, where you can simply return after some progress or reload the world to get your reward, planting the crop sample at the red statue triggers a secret boss fight.

The secret boss, the Inverted Shambler, will appear when you return to the room after planting the crop sample. As you approach the red statue, the Inverted Shambler will appear.

Defeating the Inverted Shambler will grant you the Backlash Mutator as part of the reward in the Remnant 2: The Dark Horizon DLC.

3. Give it to the Cook in Pavilion 13

Aside from the choice between the red and blue statues, there is a third option for using the culture sample. If you return to Pavilion 13, you can give the item to Duane the Cook, who can be found at his makeshift stand near the Worldstone.

By doing so, you will unlock a new consumable item called the Numbing Agent, which increases the amount of damage you can take before it starts to affect your grey health. However, you won't receive this reward right away. It's best to keep progressing through the DLC and return to Duane later to claim it.

4. Plant in the Pavilion Ground 13

While the three methods above give you great rewards, planting the ground again in Pavilion 13 using the culture sample is another way to get a unique reward from this item. You can plant this item at the back of the garden in Ward 13. However, the planting spot may not be available in your game and is tied to some tasks involving DLC content.

In order for the planting area to be visible in Ward 13, you will need to complete an encounter related to the Yaesha in the Infested Abyss DLC. In this event, you will interact with the NPC Clawbone or Root, who will ask you for two options and you either accept or decline one, as both have unique outcomes.

After completing this sequence, you should be able to notice it appeara Rooten growth at the back of your garden in District 13. This is where you need to plant the crop sample.

Note: You should also keep in mind that this process must be done in your own world. If in a co-op game where you have joined the single player world, completing this quest will not unlock the garden in District 13 for you.
