When MIUI Optimization is enabled, then the following happens:

The system forces Xiaomi to create their custom apps rather than using native AOSP services.

Application preferences and permissions are, by default, reset to their default values.

App data does not sync in the background. This inevitably would restrict some very important app features of live location, app download, and background update.

Widget animations, together with third-party music players, may not refresh in real time.

Opening an app from the background slows down UI performance.

You won't be able to install some mods or programs from outside sources.

How to Disable MIUI Optimization?

Here's how you can disable the MIUI Optimization of your phone. Please note that specific methods may vary according to software version and region. 

After opening the Settings, press "About phone". 

Long tapping on "MIUI version" multiple times will bring up a popup saying, "You are now a developer!"

Go to Settings and scroll down until you see "Additional settings."

On the appearance of "Developer options," click on it.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page until you find "Turn on MIUI optimization." Tap the switch at the top to turn off the feature on your phone.

Note that the option to "Turn on MIUI optimizations" may not show up on phones running MIUI 13 and above. The setting has now been renamed as "Turn on system optimization" for devices that support HyperOS. To make the toggle appear, you might have to do the following: 

Settings > Additional Settings, find Developer options.

Scroll down the page and tap "Reset to default values." This will reveal the optimizations tab. 

Now, scroll to the very bottom of the Developer preferences page and you will have "Turn on MIUI optimization." 

Tap on it to turn MIUI Optimization off.
