Ready to master How to Fully Uninstall MySQL on Mac? Well, today we have absolutely everything for it.

Curious about how MySQL is removed from a Mac? Yeah, it's a bit more complicated than you think because dragging the MySQL icon to the trash will simply not cut it when you might want to delete related files, databases, and configurations, too.

In this post, we will guide you through a step-by-step tutorial on how to uninstall MySQL from your macOS device.

What is MySQL?

One of the most used RDBMSes using SQL or Structured Query Language for its operations is MySQL. MySQL stores database files used by tech giants like Google, Facebook, YouTube, and Adobe.

MySQL was developed by Oracle and can run on a number of different operating systems. It's essentially a database platform that all major online software and websites use.

However, if you are pretty sure you will never use this application in the future, then it would be quite easy to uninstall MySQL on Mac just by making a few settings on your laptop. You can also free up some space on your device to store other data and files by uninstalling the MySQL software.

How to Uninstall MySQL from macOS

To uninstall MySQL from your macOS manually, follow these steps:

Click the Apple icon located on the topmost left corner; from the dropdown menu, select "System Preferences".

Locate "MySQL" in the list of System Preferences and click it.

A small window will appear just before MySQL starts. In the "Instances" section, click "Uninstall.".

After you have already uninstalled the software from your Mac, what you would want to do is delete all the files and data associated with it. You might have to open the Terminal application on your Mac and run several commands to be able to do that.

Open Terminal via the Application folder of the Mac.

Then, run the following command: copy it in the Terminal window and hit the Return key.

This is what should be in the Terminal:

Command line: mysqldump --all-databases

You will then have a fast way to back up all your files in the format .txt.

Now, you need to find the running background processes of MySQL. Run this command in the Terminal:

"ps -ax | grep mysql"

Kill any MySQL processes that may still be running in your device.

Run the following command from command prompt in the terminal.

executable "sudo remove mysql from /usr/local/

You may have an authentication password pop on your Mac. Please enter your credentials to continue.

Login to your system, open Terminal, and execute the following commands one after another. These commands will uninstall MySQL and all of its related files and configurations.

rm -fr /usr/local/mysql

Execute command: sudo rm -rf /usr/local/var/mysql.

"sudo rm -rf /Library/StartupItems/MySQLCOM"

delete all files whose name begins with "My*" in directory "Library/PreferencePanes"

sudo rm -rf /Library/Receipts/mysql*

perform "sudo rm -rf /private/var/db/receipts/*mysql*" file.

Look at /etc/hostconfig and find the line that reads MYSQLCOM=-YES\\\\

Alright guys, this is it! Restart your Mac and close the Terminal window. You have successfully removed MySQL from your Mac. If you want to double-check whether MySQL application is present on your Mac then check for its presence in the System Preferences pane of your Mac.
