Diablo 4 has gone through several mechanical changes throughout its seasons and the biggest one so far is in Season 6. Gear quality, item power, and level are among those big changes. Now we'll tell you how gear works going forward for Diablo 4 Season 6, whether you own the Vessel of Hatred expansion or not. Plus, we'll give you some tips on how to farm them with the new item changes in mind.

D4 Season 6 Item Power Change Explained 

Prior to the expansion and Season 6, the maximum gear score or gear rating in Diablo 4 was Item Power 925, which was lowered for level 90+ enemies. Now, enemies no longer have a level and are based on the game's difficulty.

Starting with Diablo 4 Season 6, the “max gear score” is now: 750 item power for non-Ancient gear (can be crafted 4 times) 800 item power for Ancient (superior affix) gear (can be crafted 12 times) This is regardless of whether or not you have the Vessel of Hatred. We’ll explain the fundamental change to the term “ancient” below.

So your Ancient items will become nearly useless at the end of the game if you’re playing on Eternal servers, because they’ll be reduced to 540 item power, even Mythic pieces that have superior affixes. This won’t matter too much if you’re resetting on Season servers, but if your preferred game mode is Eternal, you’ll have to earn your stuff all over again.

• Ancient Item Overhaul Regarding Diablo 4 Season 6 item tier, it also received a lot of criticism. Here’s the rundown: No more Hallowed items.
• Ancient items only start dropping in Torment I or higher difficulty.
• Ancient items will always have a larger affix.
• Ancient items have an item power of 800, while all other non-Ancient items have an item power of 750. 

Simply put, Ancient is now a new term and a new item tier used to define gear with large affixes (or affix-only). Thus, Diablo 4 items are subdivided into two tiers: Ancient and Non-Ancient. Even Mythic Unique (Super Unique) items fall into this tier classification.

This is not to be confused with item rarity tiers, which have mostly stayed the same:

•  Common 
• Magical
• Rare 
• Legendary (can be Ancient) 
• Unique (can be Ancient) 
• Mythic (can be Ancient) 

D4 Season 6 Gear Farming Guide

 There's a lot of the same here, right? If you're feeling intimidated by farming items again with this setup, you can use our guidelines and tips to maximize your effort.

• Reach level 60 before you start farming items with 750 item power. It only drops consistently at level 60.
•  Try to gear up for Torment I difficulty or higher so you can start farming Ancient items.

• Save your Boiling Gear Opal for Torment I or higher.
• Use Boiling Gear Opal to farm Ancient items.
• Save your upgrade materials and gold for 800 item power or Ancient items if possible.
• After a certain point, you can probably ignore non-Ancient items.
