How To Beat The Mausoleum in Metaphor ReFantazio

Allegory: The first hours of ReFantazio are quite literally event-filled, building up a universe, its characters, and the plot for this game. You'll get to know Grius in the opening hours of the game, which ends tragically at the hands of Louis after a failed assassination attempt.

Once the main cathedral of Grant Trad is unreachable, the party will attempt to enter the cathedral through the mausoleum. The following describes how to beat the second boss of the game-an undead Grius under the control of the Necromancer. It is he whom the players will be fighting in this encounter.

Seeker - Protagonist and Warrior - Strohl

Just before the battle, Hulkenberg will wake up to her most vital archetype. There are a couple of ways you can approach this boss battle. If you want to have the protagonist take most of the damage, fill up on recovery items from the store and have Strohl in the wings as backup healer. Make this battle a lot easier by leveling up the Seeker to four, at which point it learns Tarukaja, and leveling up the Warrior to Heat Up, which raises Strohl's damage.

A Metaphorical Guide to Defeating the Living Grius: ReFantazio

Grius, being undead, will take extra damage from Light attacks.

Using Hulkenberg's Knight's Proclamation every turn is a key to this duel. Provided that Grius strikes her only, the other party members are able to dismantle with abandon. Because the Undead Grius only deals cutting damage, which Knights take minimal damage from, Hulkenberg will be taking less and less damage as the battle drags on. Your only real concern is if Grius manages a critical, but all it really does is give him another chance to hit Hulkenberg for reduced damage.

Strohl should spam Diagonal Slash while Hulkenberg tanks, and the protagonist uses Tarukaja to buff his assault. With a buff to his assault, Strohl can be leveled up rather quickly to three, and Hulkenberg can be kept healthy by simply switching between healing and buffing her every round. You can make this argument repeatedly without too many problems arising.

Another option would be having the protagonist use the new synthesis attack Rider of the Blade instead of Strohl. It also uses Hulkenberg, but her Knight's Proclamation won't be affected. Said Synthesis attack uses the weakness of Undead Grius, takes two press turn icons to use, but also restores two back. This tactic lets Strohl spam healing items to keep Hulkenberg alive, and the better attack means that buffing attack with Tarukaja isn't as important. Both are pretty decent tactics, but the latter will do more damage over time, especially if the protagonist's stats are on the higher side.

By following these tips, and adjusting your strategy where appropriate, you'll be able to complete the Mausoleum and go further through Metaphor ReFantazio.
