Black Myth Wukong – Old Rattle Drum Quest Guide

This is a quest that starts with an unavailable item and covers a few zones in Chapter Two of Black Myth: Wukong. Specifically, the area known as Yellow Wind Ridge. Get ready for a serious fight as it can get really intense.

Quest Step One: Acquire Old Rattle Drum from Tiger's Acolyte

Once the Tiger's Acolyte appears and reaches a bridge at the site of the Yellow Wind Formation, the Windrest Bridge Shrine, all you have to do is defeat it to reveal the secret treasure and to start the quest. You can access it from Sandgate Village by traveling to the Valley of Despair Shrine and passing through a cave to its left before squeezing through a crack in the stone.

Approach Windrest Bridge Shrine, climb up the hillside, pass the hamlet, and head on over the major bridge with the huge gate. That is where you will encounter the Tiger's Acolyte, who, upon being beaten, awards you with the Old Rattle Drum and unlocks the quest. The Windrest Hamlet Shrine is rather conveniently just ahead of the bridge the Acolyte resides on.

Step Two: Head to Windrest Hamlet

Head back to the small village you took to get to the Tiger's Acolyte bridge. As you make your way through, the screen will fade to greyscale and a child will come up to you asking for the Old Rattle Drum. Find the item, turn it on, and get ready for the fight with the incoming mobs.

Step Three: Valley of Despair

Go back to Sandgate Village, Valley of Despair Shrine, and walk in through the massive two gates on the right. Have with you the Keenness of Tiger dropped by the Tiger Vanguard chieftains and the Sternness of Stone dropped by the Stone Vanguard general, since these trigger a gargantuan mechanism that parts the stone gates.

An even faster way to get there, if it hasn't been done by now, is traveling the area and sliding down the sand to the Windseal Gate Shrine from the Rock Clash Platform.

Coming from the side of the Valley of Despair, a hut on the right will appear with a small courtyard beneath. Approaching it will distort the screen to black and white, with a child asking for the Old Rattle Drum. Turn it in and prepare to fight.

Final Step: Head to Sandgate Village

Back to Shrine of Valley of Despair; through the gate and take your first right up the stairs. Go straight forward and keep left; dodging the ranged enemies till you come back to the courtyard where you fought the Earth Wolf boss earlier. Alternatively, take the now-opened shortcut into the Sandgate Entrance Shrine.

On the left side of the courtyard is a large shrine and, via a small path, this leads to a tiny enclosed area full of bones, which contains a well. If you use the drum, a cutscene of a boy appears, gesturing for you to go down the well. You'll face the boss Mad Tiger at the bottom of the well, but it's well worth the risk as the reward is quite great.
