Modern Warfare 3 Zombies combines levels of exploration across an open world, alternatingly, with a linear story campaign. Players are free to roam across Urzikstan, finish contracts, or progress through story missions to unlock a wealth of rewards, from mysterious relics to many more.
Of the highly diversified collection of relics gathered in Modern Warfare Zombies, there is one mysterious artifact known as the Drum. It doesn't have an intrinsic link to any Story Mission in particular, even though players will be required to finish one so as to unlock it. As this curious item represents an integral part of a much bigger and intricate puzzle, players will need to collect a multitude of other relics with unique properties and cleverly combine them with the drum. The path to unlocking the Drum's true potential will be a hard-won struggle but rewarding in its own right—both in strategic thinking and in terms of persistent exploration.
How To Get The Drum
The Drum So, to get The Drum relic, players will have to complete the Act 4 Story Mission Countermeasures inside the Reward Rift. Players can toggle this mission on by going to the Anomaly in Old Town at F4 on the tac map. Note that before entering the Rift, players should pack-a-punch their weapons up to at least Tier 2, and equip a Rare Aether Tool or better; enemies inside reflect the higher intensity of the Tier 2 Zone.
This is a linear mission where the player must escort an ACV through a hazardous exclusion zone. These will be many challenges that must be overcome along this journey. The following will give a detailed breakdown of these challenges and their solutions.
Investigate/Eliminate The Source Of The Signal Disruption
To switch the ACV on, players must locate the UAV tower on the right-hand side of the vehicle. When interacted with, the tower reveals an electrified Mimic. This vile creature takes critical hits when its mouth – which glows – has been shot. Defeating it, the creature falls to the ground, allowing the player to safely get back inside the ACV and continue on their way.
Clear The Infected Spores From The Mall
Players who follow Fletcher's last known signal find themselves in a hazardous mall environment. Here, players must eliminate 15 deadly spores. The Toner for Death Perception Perk will help find these unknown dangers. Use the Gas Masks offered to greatly increase the neutralization of harmful spores and protect health and armor in this poisonous atmosphere. After killing all the spores, a way forward will become clear to lead one back to the ACV.
Outlast
The gameplay for this contract shares a similar resemblance to the Outlast Contracts in Urzikstan. The players have to extract a certain location after escorting the ACV to that location. There, they will activate a PND device and have to defend it against endless hordes of zombies until its full charge.
Eliminate Krawvlr
After players complete the Outlast objective, a formidable foe awaits: Krawvlr, a supercharged Mangler equipped with a devastating area-of-effect attack. Focus damage on its right arm when it is powering up for critical damage, but also be sure to interrupt it to avoid its ranged attack.
Beating Krawvlr will unlock a Reward Rift that's literally next to a Rift Portal and is full of really good loot, including the Drum. Once this crucial item is acquired, it's free to travel through the Rift Portal and leave the exclusion zone.
The Drum works exactly like any other Acquisitions, so it's safe to store in the Acquisition Stash for later deployments.
What To Do With The Drum
This drum is an artifact needed—one of four—to unlock a Dark Aether Rift located in the northeast corner of Old Town's Tier 3 Zone (G4 on the tactical map). To unlock the Rift, the Drum must be placed on its pedestal. However, to actually open the Rift Portal one needs to obtain and upgrade three other items with gold, which are the Tattered MMA Gloves, the Perforated Target, and the Pristine Mirror. The said items need to be upgraded with gold and then placed on their pedestals to complete the ritual.
