Learn about her style, and how she utilized the iPad Pro and Apple Pencil to bring her latest vision to life. 00:01 JANICE: I’m Janice Sung. 00:02 This is how I make digital paintings for "Dickinson." 00:05 She isn’t afraid to follow her dreams, and that’s something I truly believe in as well. 00:10 I like to incorporate a lot of organic forms; 00:13 it really brings the painting to life. 00:17 When I was a kid I started painting traditionally. 00:21 I slowly transitioned into digital as I got older. 00:23 They go hand in hand. 00:26 I didn’t want to work for a big company because I didn’t want someone to tell me what to do. 00:30 I wanted to create art for myself. 00:34 Emily Dickinson was this young, independent woman. 00:37 I wanted to capture the essence of the character. 00:41 I’ll start by sketching on an iPad Pro, 00:44 thinking of different poses that best suit “Dickinson,” 00:48 and from there I’ll start blocking in the colors, figuring out the lighting. 01:00 I can go forever perfecting every painting, 01:03 but the more time you spend perfecting something, you’re not progressing, 01:09 and growing as an artist is the most important thing for me.
