Life is getting more expensive day by day especially in the UK. People are looking for ways to make more money like getting a second job, using
trading forex sites or reducing their outgoings. However, one thing that Brits like doing is drinking in the pub but that is coming at a price. When the pandemic hit Britain pubs were hit hard and they struggled to keep afloat, despite help from the government, because it is one of the best past times in Britain. However, with prices rising in pubs will we see a lot less people going out to pubs and bars? Why is going to a pub important? The pub is seen as a sanctuary for many. It is a place for social meet ups with friends and a place to make new friends. There is entertainment in terms of bands playing at pubs, sport being shown and usually a weekly quiz. There is also the lure of alcohol and one of the most popular alcoholic drinks is beer.Beer has been a staple in many people’s lives for centuries and it has been drunk by the masses. The pub is a staple on soap operas, meeting up before sports events and used for marking special occasions so alongside that is beer.Price riseThe price of a pint in the UK pub in 1973 was 17p for lager. Over the past 49 years that has risen to £3.96. It has even jumped up 23p from 2020 as the pubs have reopened following the pandemic and social distancing laws have been lifted. The average price is even more in the capital cities. If you look at Edinburgh the average price is £5.10 and London is even more expensive as the price is as high as £6.00. It is not a cheap hobby going down to the pubs for a draught beer. Will it stop?As we have seen there has been no signs of it stopping even from 1973, so no there is no sign of it stopping now in 2022. The price of beer however is not matching life as we know it with wages stagnating and other things such as petrol, energy and shopping rising all the way people will be put off from visiting the pub for a beer. The recent stories are stating that by the end of 2032 the average price of a pint could be as much as £10. Will people still be wanting to go out and drink a beer for £10? I think you will see people put off by those prices and that is the case now.
Pubs are having to rise the prices to keep up and at least break even which is putting people off. Many landlords do not believe that COVID is the issue but the fact that everything in life is more expensive people are willing to drop visiting the pub and buy their own alcohol in. -
