00:09 Hi, we are Piccolo Studios from Barcelona.
00:11 We are Jordi and Alexis and we are here
00:13 to talk to you about our first game Arise: A Simple Story
00:21 We are three partners at Piccolo Studios.
00:23 We've been together for almost 20 years now.
00:25 We come from the world of advertising.
00:27 Eight years ago we created our own
00:29 company, which is a vision of products for
00:31 advertising and big brands in Spain.
00:33 And we we're making money, but weren't,
00:36 we were not having fun anymore.
00:38 And we have always been very passionate about video games.
00:41 So at some point we decided to create
00:43 a video game company.
00:44 As simple and as difficult as that.
00:46 Everybody told us that it was, like -
00:48 A big mistake.
00:49 A big mistake! Yeah, actually they told us,
00:50 "This is a mistake, you shouldn't do it."
00:52 "You should not risk what you have now,"
00:54 "Because you are successful at advertsing."
00:56 "Why would you risk everything you're doing?"
00:58 So if you're going to fail, at least
01:00 fail doing what you want to do. Right? So,
01:03 It was as simple as that.
01:04 Oh yeah, simple as that. Yeah.
01:05 When advertising became just a job,
01:07 we decided just to
01:09 try a new adventure.
01:10 This led to creating Piccolo Studios, which means
01:13 Piccolo means small in Italian
01:15 and this also reflects our vision
01:17 how we want to craft games.
01:19 We say, "We craft them; we don't make them."
01:20 The team that we have,
01:22 It is small.
01:23 We don't pretend to be 200 people.
01:25 In the future, we don't want to be all that much.
01:27 And we have wanted to create things that have...
01:29 not that have,
01:30 a message in the sense that we want to change the world, but
01:33 we want to
01:35 to talk about something that really
01:37 we feel.
01:38 The concept behind Arise, which is
01:39 having an old man remembering his life,
01:42 is also connected to the
01:43 the point in life where we were when
01:45 we decided to create Piccolo, because
01:47 we are not that young anymore. We are not in our 20's.
01:50 We are older. We are in our 40's.
01:53 And what we have which makes us different
01:55 is that
01:56 we have a life to look back at.
01:58 We have this vision of looking
01:59 back at what we have achieved so far.
02:01 And we wanted to translate this into
02:03 the game experience.
02:04 All video games are about the adventure ahead, but
02:06 never talk about the adventure behind.
02:08 And this is what we wanted to tell people, and that's
02:12 how
02:12 the idea of creating the company is
02:14 connected to the type of
02:15 game that we decided to make as our first.
02:22 We chose Arise because it's,
02:25 it implies
02:26 the meaning of overcoming difficulties.
02:30 Life is full of difficulties.
02:31 Also because it's like you fly up and you see
02:34 everything from the top.
02:36 Then you can recall all your life and then you,
02:39 you see all the,
02:41 the emotional rollercoaster you've been through.
02:48 I tell you, we have
02:48 put a lot of our passion in this game.
02:51 Our main goal as a company is to,
02:53 to craft games that touch people.
02:55 So we wanted people to,
02:58 to feel this connection with the game.
03:00 We all created this story, which is,
03:02 which has it's highs and lows.
03:05 And, we put
03:08 all our passion, I mean we quit advertising to create
03:11 something like this. We risked everything we had.
03:14 So, I don't think if you can put
03:15 more in a game than
03:17 what we put.
03:18 Yeah.
03:23 Actually we want people to feel
03:26 all sorts of emotions from
03:28 sad to
03:29 joy to meloncholy to hope
03:34 to feeling the loss of someone that you love,
03:36 to love someone.
03:37 I think if I had to summarize in one word
03:39 it would be empathy.
03:41 We want you to feel empathy. That's,
03:43 also because it's a simple story.
03:45 There's an ordinary man and we are
03:46 ordinary people as well.
03:47 When you are a kid and you are wandering in the woods
03:49 for the first time.
03:50 Or when you kiss a girl for the first time,
03:52 it's extraordinary to you.
03:53 When we are talking video games, it's always ones,
03:55 you know, this huge adventure and you always have,
03:58 you are the chosen one about something.
03:59 You are always the chosen one.
04:02 It's boring to be the hero everytime, you know?
04:04 And save the world every day.
04:08 I think we will put that in the video actually because that's great.
04:10 Okay!
