He's been an integral piece of the Dallas Cowboys organization since being picked in the third round of the NFL draft in 2003. He currently sits second in NFL history in all-time career receptions and receiving yards by a tight end. However, Witten was not always the tight end he is today. He was orginally recruited by the University of Tennessee to play defensive end, after playing linebacker and tight end through his high school career. When injuries landed Tennessee's starting tight ends on the bench, Witten was moved to offense to be primarily used as a blocker. After playing only 20 games in the tight end position, Witten found himself ranked third and fourth in school history in career receptions and receiving yards, respectively. He declared for the NFL draft following his junior year.
