In 2023, we rejoined forces with Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London. Offering our Original 1460 boot as a new expressive canvas, we challenged 9 standout students from the MA fashion course to create a unique look which captured the rebellious spirit of the first ever Dr. Martens boot.
But in the end, there could only be 4 winners. Each with completely different interpretations of the 1460 boot, inspired by shape. Form. Technique. And personal stories. The 4 winners have all been awarded a bursary to support the development of their creative practice during their final academic term.

THE WINNERS
Yanya Cheng: Yanya sees fashion design as a conversation between designer and wearer. Her customised version of the 1460 boot is inspired by the ease and confidence of its durability, enhanced with her signature “adjustable cording” technique.
Valeria Pulici: Sustainability and craftsmanship are front of mind for Valeria, and she recontextualises everyday objects using upcycling and other techniques. Inspired by our durable, heritage workwear styles, her version of the 1460 is an imprint of a boot in tarmac.
Traiceline Pratt: Traiceline’s work delves into the specific individuals and environments that he grew up around in the Bahamas. His customised version of our 1460 boot is inspired by the story of his childhood friend and a thief.
Finlay Vincent: With a modular clothing-based menswear label, Finlay’s boot deconstructs the DM’s core design language: a 1461 shoe with a detachable boot upper that forms our 1460 boot. And our signature heel loop that can be attached with a button closure.
