Last year, Cian captained the Clare Minor Hurlers to a Munster final and an All-Ireland quarter final. He was also awarded an Electric Ireland GAA Minor Star award as one of the best 15 Minor hurling players of 2019 giving him big hopes and dreams for 2020.
When lock down hit in March, Cian was studying for his leaving cert as well as preparing for a championship season with Clare. While things weren’t easy, Cian knew a lot of people were worse off and wanted to help. Turning to well-known GAA figures, including Anthony Daly, Cian kickstarted a social media campaign that would trend across Ireland. Cian asked people to #PassTheSliotharNotTheVirus and donate four euro to Cystic Fibrosis Ireland. Soon, hurlers young and old from all over Ireland were getting involved. By starting this social media campaign Cian helped to raise awareness and vital funds for Cystic Fibrosis.
Electric Ireland have been sponsors of the Electric Ireland GAA Minor Championship since 2012. While the championships are on hold this year, we remain committed to showcasing the resilience and positive impact these young men have on and off the pitch and their contribution to their local communities.
GAA is at the heart of Irish communities and we’re proud to support these GAA Minor players.
