that’s creating an open community for runners of all colors, shapes and sizes to close the gaps in.
00:00 when you see a bunch of black folks
00:01 running or really doing anything
00:03 together it is it is a scene I want them
00:04 to see like wow there are people of
00:06 color and are out here and running and
00:09 supporting each other well one thing
00:16 that I think is heightened especially in
00:17 a city like Chicago is just the the deep
00:20 history of oppression of segregation the
00:24 south side of Chicago gets a lot of
00:25 inaccurate attention there are a lot of
00:28 gaps in representation and that's really
00:29 what anchors gumbo fit before authentic
00:32 about what these communities represent
00:35 then you have to shine a light on all of
00:37 the beautiful things as well as the
00:39 negative things beauty grit and strength
00:44 are all a natural part of the black
00:46 experience and those things come out
00:48 when you see people push themselves to
00:50 just run that extra mile the commitment
00:53 that's necessary to train for a race the
00:56 commitment to be a part of a run Club
00:58 the commitment to show up that to me is
01:01 something that I really love to example
01:03 five all we're trying to do is to create
01:04 a community that allows those narratives
01:08 it's important for the black community
01:11 to show their authentic self you know in
01:13 public spaces so when you're doing it
01:15within a community you feel more
01:17 confident because you have people around
01:19 you who understand you who aren't
01:20 judging you
01:21 anytime anybody kind of has the
01:23 opportunity to shine their light as
01:25 bright as they can everybody's gonna
01:27 feel that glow sport has a power to
01:29 change community
