00:00 Hi, I'm Lola Kirke and I play
00:01 Kim in Lost Girls.
00:05 The film is about a group
00:06 of sex workers, went missing
00:08 in the mid-2000s, and their relatives,
00:12 mostly women relatives, their mothers and sisters,
00:15 banded together to demand the police take action
00:18 and look into the case.
00:20 Oh, Kim is here.
00:22 I play one of the relatives of one of the victims
00:26 and my character is also a sex worker.
00:29 Okay, Kim,
00:31 North Carolina,
00:33 I like Rocky Road ice cream
00:35 and long walks on the beach, and my sister was Amber.
00:39 I really wanted to understand
00:42 Kim's role in the whole piece.
00:44 She isn't in it that much,
00:46 but she is very much a vehicle for
00:48 Amy Ryan's character's movement
00:52 and the story in general.
00:53 If you're here to give me some big speech, save it.
00:57 I already heard it from the others.
00:58 I wanted her to take up as much space as possible,
01:01 without overburdening the rest of the film
01:03 and I was like,
01:03 "How can I do that?
01:04 Okay, so she's gonna be in lots of colors
01:07 and she's gonna cover all of her pimples
01:09 with rhinestones and bindis" and like,
01:12 I just wanted her to take up a lot of room
01:14 when she was there,
01:15 so that you could feel her when she wasn't there.
01:18 I wanted her to be lovable in that way.
01:20 Everyone has their destiny.
01:22 Maybe Amber's was Amber's.
01:24 And maybe this is mine.
01:26 I really wanted to keep Kim's accent,
01:28 so I did some dialect coaching for the film
01:32 with the wonderful coach Liz Himelstein.
01:34 It's a very specific accent,
01:35 it's a South Carolina accent.
01:37 I was like going back through my records
01:39 and my phone logs
01:40 it was,
01:41 it's really kind of like, down here.
01:44 Fun.
01:44 Well they all did.
01:45 That's why they're all so the same.
01:46 'Cause online, you can practically go shopping.
01:49 In Bob Kolker's book, you get such a rich look
01:53 into all of the victims
01:55 that we don't get as much of in the film.
01:57 I got to be quite creative and make like a,
02:00 kind of, hybrid of a couple different people,
02:04 including the real Kim.
02:07 I just wanted to honor all of them
02:08 by including them into this one person.
02:12 Your girls knew that.
02:13 Whether you wanna believe it or not.
02:15 I like thinking about those little things for characters.- advertisement spot 2020
