AMC's The Terror isn't so much about jump scares and gore as it is about methodically destroying one's sanity in the face of horror, which means it's cerebral horror at its best. Both seasons of the anthology series are steeped in history, with season 1 set in the 1840s when expeditions to discover the Northwest Passage are pursued by a man-eating polar bear, and season 2 set in the Japanese internment camps set up in Haunted During World War II II. If you only have time to watch one, set sail on season 1, a modern horror masterpiece whose unmistakable imagery never leaves my mind. -Tim Surette [Trailer]
A meme known only as "Grimcutty" has managed to wreak havoc in a small town, and kids who encounter it appear to be hurting themselves and others. But that online threat turns into real terror when a real-life version of Grimcutty starts attacking Asha (Sara Wolfkind). Asha doesn't just have to find a way to defeat Grimcutty; she has to do it all alone because no one seems to believe that her life is in danger because of Grimcutty. Will Grimcutty finally become the latest entry in the hallowed Halloween horror canon? Only time will tell.
