Check out the full article, complete with detailed steps and all the parts, accessories, and tools you need to get the job done: https://www.ebay.com/motors/diy/chang... 0:01 Welcome to Driveway DIY, where we bring the shop to you. 0:05 Today, we're going to show you how to change your engine’s oil. 0:18 We know that most people don't have a lift. 0:20 We're going to be using a lift on this project just to make it easier to film. 0:24 However, you can still do this in your driveway with the help of a jack 0:28 and a jack stand. 0:30 Always use a jack stand whenever you're 0:33 working underneath a lifted vehicle for safety. 0:36 Simply locate the jacking point under your vehicle. 0:40 Slide your jack under and raise it up. 0:44 We're going to position the jack stand 0:46 under the engine cradle. 0:49 Just lift it up. 0:50 Then you can take the pressure off of the Jack. 0:53 First, we're going to position our catch can here, 0:57 to make sure that we catch the flow of oil and don't spill all over the floor. 1:01 Then we're going to bring our wrench with a socket on it, 1:05 and we're going to break the bolt loose 1:08 Then just thread this out by hand. 1:11 Try not to let the bolt fall into the catch can. 1:21 Always inspect your oil plug. 1:23 Inspect the washer. 1:26 Inspect the hex. 1:28 If the washer or the bolt is damaged in any way, you're going to want to replace it. 1:33 You also want to clean the plug really well. 1:37 Many oil plugs have magnetic tips to catch shavings. 1:42 Just slide this over and go ahead and reinstall the bolt. 1:49 And then tighten up the bolt. 1:51 You do not want to over tighten this bolt. 1:54 It will strip your oil pan. 1:57 You can check your vehicle service manual for the official torque specs. 2:02 These are a couple of tools that I use to remove oil filters. 2:06 This is a three bar oil filter wrench. 2:10 And this is just a standard strap wrench. 2:13 Which one I use depends on the placement of the filter. 2:17 I use this one of the most. 2:18 But sometimes you have to use a filter wrench like this. 2:27 Get it loose, 2:28 then reach up with your hand and lower it before it comes out. 2:32 This is a messy job. 2:33 You're going to get oil on your hands, so wear gloves and 2:36 keep plenty of towels handy to clean up. 2:39 Then we let the engine block drain. 2:41 Now we can remove the full oil pan. 2:45 Before we install the oil filter, you want to make sure 2:48 that you lubricate the seal. 2:50 This particular filter has an O-ring seal, but many filters use a cork seal. 2:55 Simply take a little bit of oil poured into the filter. 2:58 Get some on your finger and rub that on the seal. 3:02 If you skip this step, your filter can come loose and it will fall off. 3:07 Now we install our prepared oil filter. 3:11 the way to properly tighten an oil filter is 3:15 you thread it up until it stops and then a quarter of a turn 3:22 You may find it necessary to 3:23 use a clean towel to get a good grip on your oil filter. 3:28 Now we're going to fill the engine with oil. 3:30 Many times the type of oil is going to be listed on the cap. 3:35 If it is not, you can check your owner's manual. 3:38 You also want to check for your engine oil capacity. 3:41 This engine needs 4.4 quarts. 3:45 Now we're going to fill our engine. 3:47 Here's a top tip for you. 3:49 If you hold the bottle like this, 3:53 you can control the poor much better and have less spillage. 3:58 And it doesn't glug. 3:59 last step is use a clean towel to clean up any spillage. 4:04 Put your cap back on 4:07 Then pull your dipstick. 4:10 Clean it. 4:13 Reinstall. 4:16 Pull it back out 4:18 and check the oil level to make sure that it's where it needs to be. 4:22 and that's all there is to changing oil on most vehicles. 4:39 Find all the parts you need to get the job done at eBaymotors.com.
