Learn more about the show in this video and listen as the show's curators, Florence Muller and Sarah Schleuning, and its scenographer, Shohei Shigematsu, recount how they put together this stunning retrospective. 00:01 Bringing ‘Dior from Paris to the World’ to Dallas 00:03 was on wonderful opportunity because there’s a long history 00:07 and connection between the city of Dallas and Dior. 00:11 In 1947, right after Christian Dior launched the ‘New Look’, 00:15 Neiman Marcus awarded the Fashion Award to Christian Dior, 00:19 and in fact his first trip to the United States was to Dallas, 00:23 to accept this award. 00:24 One of the great things that the show is about is creativity. 00:28 So we worked with our own collection and works that were in our community 00:32 to draw very clear connections between the synergy 00:36 and the kind of artistic intertwining of ideas. 00:40 Some are very literal like Sterling Ruby’s paintings 00:43 that directly connect with the collaboration with Raf Simons. 00:46 In others it was more to bring our Jackson Pollock cathedral 00:51 in parallel and relationship to Marc Bohan’s series. 00:56 The difference between the exhibition in Denver and this one in Dallas, 01:01 is mainly about 2 things. 01:04 The space and the set design. 01:08 Our first concept was to make a very specific exhibition design 01:13 for the architecture that houses the exhibition. 01:16 In Denver it was a very contemporary museum, 01:19 with a lot of angled walls, but here architecture is from a modern period 01:25 where the spaces are very well defined as a gallery space, 01:28 so here I wanted to maximise, 01:31 revealing an architectural feature of the museum. 01:35 There’s a clear central space this barrel vault 01:38 and also 4 rooms that are attached to the barrel vault. 01:42 In Dallas it’s more dramatic 01:45 and you are little more far away from the dresses, 01:48 but you envision this aspect of the Dior style, 01:53 which is to create something dramatic, theatrical, 01:56 and you perceive this. - advertisement spot 2019
