How to Share Internet From Android Phone With a PC via Tethering

If you want to do this on Android, you have three tethering options to share the Internet connection: one of these is to use the phone as a wireless access point, another is to connect the phone to the computer via USB and the last one would be via Bluetooth.

How to Share Internet From Android Phone With a PC via Tethering

In today's mobile-centric world, the need for seamless internet access transcends physical location. This guide empowers you to leverage your Android device's tethering capabilities, transforming it into a reliable internet source for your PC.

Method 1: Establishing a Wi-Fi Hotspot

Accessing Network Settings: Navigate to your Android device's Settings menu and locate the "Connections" or a similar network management section.

Activating Mobile Hotspot: Within the "Mobile Hotspot and Tethering" sub-menu, locate the master switch and activate it.

Network Configuration: Personalize your hotspot by creating a unique and memorable "Network Name" (SSID). For enhanced security, craft a robust "Password" to safeguard your internet connection from unauthorized users. Advanced settings allow you to further customize your hotspot, including security type, Wi-Fi band selection (2.4GHz or 5GHz for varying range and speed), and hotspot visibility control.

PC Connection: On your PC, locate the Wi-Fi settings (typically accessible by clicking the network icon in the system tray). Select the network name you established on your phone and enter the corresponding password. Once connected, your PC will enjoy internet access courtesy of your Android device.

Method 2: Wired Tethering via USB

Mobile Data Activation: Ensure your phone's mobile data is enabled to serve as the internet source.

Physical Connection: Utilize a USB cable to establish a physical link between your phone and your PC.

Notification Panel Access: On your phone, swipe down to reveal the notification panel and locate the "Android System notification" (the phrasing might vary depending on your phone model).

USB Tethering Activation: Select the "USB tethering" option from the available network connection methods. This establishes a wired bridge, channeling your phone's internet access to your PC.

Method 3: Bluetooth Tethering - A Viable Alternative with Caveats

Bluetooth Pairing: Activate Bluetooth on both your phone and PC. On your phone, navigate to the Bluetooth settings and initiate the pairing process with your computer. On Windows machines, access the Settings app, navigate to "Bluetooth & devices," ensure Bluetooth is toggled on, and search for new devices to pair with. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the pairing process.

Enabling Bluetooth Tethering: With the Bluetooth connection established, activate Bluetooth tethering on your phone.

PC Tethering Access: On your Windows PC, press "Win + I" to open Settings. Navigate to "Bluetooth & devices," select "Join Personal Area Network (PAN)," choose the access point you created on your phone, and click "Connect."

Important Note:  While Bluetooth tethering offers a wireless solution, it often delivers the slowest internet speeds compared to Wi-Fi hotspot or USB tethering.  This method is better suited for low-bandwidth tasks or quick data transfers due to its inherent limitations.
