Sprint Corporation is a telecommunications company based in Overland Park, Kansas. This company operates and owns the fourth largest wireless operator in the United States with 49 million customers, 5 only surpassed by Verizon Wireless and AT & T Mobility. Prior to 2005, the company was known as Sprint Corporation, but took the name Sprint Nextel Corporation when it merged with Nextel Communications that year. On October 14, 2012, Japanese telecommunications company SoftBank announced its intention to acquire 70% of Sprint Nextel Corporation for $ 20,100,000,000. SoftBank claims that Sprint will remain a separate entity, will continue to be a CDMA carrier and will continue to execute Sprint's plan to become the carrier of all of its LTE services by 2017.
