Remembering some of the best TV commercials of all time

Before the likes of Netflix and cable boxes had the option of fast-forwarding pre-recorded programmes, the world was forced to sit through commercials before their show would recommence. Nowadays, we don’t have to due to the aforementioned technologies we now have access to, making TV commercials a real hassle for many people of today. In fact, according to recent research, the vast majority of people skip commercials while watching the programmes of their choice in 2021, making what used to be a hugely beneficial advertising tool for companies lose its weight a tad. Television commercials will always benefit a brand, but there’s a strong argument to suggest that they aren’t as influential as they used to be, apart from at Christmas time perhaps. Some people will always adore television commercials, though. Some commercials spark feelings of nostalgia, while others can make such an impact that they go viral online. They’re far from redundant in the modern world despite their evident decline, with numerous commercials hogging the limelight at big sporting events like the Champions League final or the Super Bowl. Fact is, though, in 2021 people generally turn to their mobile phones to look at social media or ways at increasing your chances to win at roulette with slotsheaven.com in the UK while a commercial is on, or they fast forward them altogether. That doesn’t mean we can’t appreciate some of the classic TV commercials of old, though, does it? Without further ado, here’s a look back at some of the best TV commercials of all-time.

Apple - “1984” (1984)

Prominent on our screens in 1984 when it was released, the Apple commercial from 1984 advertised their original Macintosh computer, a device which was well ahead of other forms of technology at the time. Hollywood director Ridley Scott directed the ad, which clearly paid homage to the classic novel by George Orwell “1984”. The advert wasn’t expected to do as well as it did, with some Apple executives against the idea before it aired. The commercial worked, though, with Apple’s sales reportedly shooting up off the back of it.

Coca-Cola – “Meet Joe Greene” (1979)

Coca-Cola commercials have always been iconic, especially at Christmas time as the drinks brand looks to make its mark around the world with a Santa themed masterpiece. Coca-Cola has registered huge success away from Christmas commercials, though, with the commercial featuring NFL star Joe Greene registering huge success. Regarded by many as one of the best commercials in Super Bowl history, the ad featured a young kid sharing his bottle of Coke with the NFL star. This heartwarming advert with both Coca-Cola and the NFL joining forces was well received by both sets of Coke and American football fans.

Budweiser – “Whassup?!” (1999)

A truly iconic commercial from 1999, the Budweiser “whassup” advertisement is adored all over the world and made an impact on literally every corner of the globe. The commercial even found its way onto the original Scary Movie, once again highlighting its humongous impact. Since the famous greeting was uttered in 1999, we’ve seen it featured heavily elsewhere as the advert became a global phenomenon.

Old Spice – “The Man Your Man Could Smell Like” (2010)

Old Spice’s 2010 commercial is still widely known today after its viral success at the time of its release, giving men the impression that wearing Old Spice will make you spell good and attract the ladies. A comical, light-hearted commercial, nobody will ever forget the “I’m on a horse” line featured in the ad. When it comes to memorable commercials, Old Spice nailed it. -
